Video from Caersws NPS

Stu Thomson from mtbcut.tv writes:

Thought I'd drop you a mail with the latest video from the NPS series from Caersws at the weekend.

It wasn't a great weekend for the team. Joe is out in France racing some European races but the rest of the boys were there. Ben had a rare 'just didn't go fast enough' type run. On a really short track (1min 30 sec) he was 3 seconds down. Coatesy took a master podium place though.

Anyway, here's the video, as usual it still features all the team and the two Mojo riders.

Hope 6hr Endurance DH - the boys are back from the Bill

So Vaughan and Dave both made it back in one piece from the No Fuss Events Hope Endurance Downhill. Here's the MTBCut.tv video to give you the flavour of the day:

Summed up well over at Singletrack World, the event was a great success and even the miserable weather didn't dampen spirits. A big hat-tip should go the the No-Fuss marshals that stood out on the hillside through the worst of the day's conditions to keep everyone safe and sound.

As you can imagine it was a 6 hour war of attrition on rider and bike. It's this kind of event that really tests components and it was great to see that there were plenty of 224s and a couple of our 225 prototypes that all withstood the abuse unscathed. There was even an old Patriot being thrashed for the whole day - inspirational.

Modesty almost prevents us from saying that the top 4 riders were all Orange mounted (MTBcut Cyclejersey rider, Chris Hutchens, 2nd, ran for most of the day chainless too!). Orange Warranty man Dave Flynn placed 7th despite not having ridden a DH bike for 2 years. "it got easier as the day went on." said Dave with a wry smile. We'll believe you, thousands wouldn't. James Shirley and Ali Maclennan, both winners in their classes, gave a classic 'how to' demonstration of the right way to go about endurance downhill racing to top the podium on the day. A mention too for Junior winner James Scott – MTBCut CycleJersey - who also ended the day 'chainless' but ran a time that would have had him 3rd in the seniors.

Our thanks go to No Fuss Events for organising the day, Hope Technology for sponsoring a great event and especially all the riders who took part. Our gut feel is that this is going to grow and grow. See you there next year.

Michael's 'From the pits' Gallery

Michael Bonney manned the Orange pit for the day and offered the lads some hearty encouragement, while gamely twittering the day's highlights on the fly. When he could he grabbed some snaps. Here's a gallery that pretty much sums up the day.

Cathro and Stanny - great results from UK Nat Champs, Innerleithen

News tidbit from the weekend - Ben Cathro won the Silver Medal behind Gee Atherton at the British Downhill Championships (July 19 - Innerleithen, Scotland).

Mojo/Orange rider Dan Stanbridge also had a good day 'in the office' with a solid fourth place. Bitter sweet though, as in the nationals, it's just outside the medals, but a fine ride nonetheless.

Mixed weather over the weekend made race conditions interesting. Even Steve Peat slipped up. But an end result with two Orange riders in the top five sounds good to us.

2009 British Downhill Championships - Senior Men

Posn Bib Name Club/Spons Result
1 30 Gee ATHERTON Animal/Commencal 2:46.123
2 23 Ben CATHRO MTB Cut/Cyclejersey 2:48.217
3 5 Matt SIMMONDS CRC Intense 2:48.592
4 31 Dan STANBRIDGE MOJO / Orange 2:49.199
5 1 Steve PEAT The Syndicate 2:49.384

Just outside the top 10, Joe Barnes, riding for MTBCut.Cycle jersey was 11th.

The senior women's race was won by Tracy Moseley. Mojo/Orange Rider Aimee Dix placed forth there, so not a bad weekend for the Mojos.

Dodgy Orange Bikes for sale on t'internet

We've just heard through the grapevine that there are some sculdugerous individuals on the net that claim to have "Stock of all colours and all sizes" of Orange Bikes' models at hefty discounts. Particularly Fives and ST4s. Seeing as we make them, supply them to dealers and know pretty much where they are going, this doesn't sound right, even to us. Investigations are afoot.

If you're looking to buy a new Orange bike, please check that your are purchasing from an authorised Orange dealer. Our UK dealers are listed on the site.

IMPORTANTLY: Do not part with any money or pay a deposit on a bike from any unrecognised source.

10@Kirroughtree Redux

The Orange crew attended the No Fuss 10@Kirroughtree event at the weekend and we were blessed with great weather, great people and a superb race put on by Fraser Coupland.

Stu Thomson from MTBcut entered a team consisting of himself, Mark Mackarel and Colin Bull. As if racing wasn't tough enough he also found time to make a video diary from the event. Worth a coffee break to anyone.

If you've not come across No Fuss Events before, check out what they do. We'll be at the Fort William Endurance event on the 1st of August... I think we've actually persuaded a couple of the lads to enter. More fool them.

Fort Bill Red Route

Stu Thomson of MTBCut.tv sent this through:

It's been pretty manic of late... but I managed to get a little bit of footage of Ben Cathro, Joe Barnes and Chris Hutchens riding the new red route at Fort William last week. It ended up as a nice little video of them playing on the new track.

Thanks to all of you for your continued support of the team... Incidentally after filming this Ben and Joe went on to finish 1st and 2nd in Elite at the British NPS round on the weekend.

Team Transcend Orange 2009

Fraser writes:

I just wanted to drop you all a quick note to thank you for the help with the Transcend Orange team this season. The season is only a couple of races in for the guys so far, but the stickers kits have finally arrived from the printer so I figured it was time for a quick update. A few of you have asked what the bikes were going to look like this season, so here it is!

Transcend Team Bike Team Transcend

So far the team has seen 2 podiums. Jamie Biluk was 3rd at the first Island Cup on Vancouver Island, and James Jeannet was 5th at the first Plattekill Mountain race of the year in upper state NY. Jamie also finished 20th at last weekend's US Open of MTB in new Jersey, while James was 28th.

The next race for the team is the Fort William, Scotland World Cup followed by a few local races and 2 Super Enduro Races in Italy and France.

As usual I'd like to thank our sponsors without whom this wouldn't be possible: Transcend Magazine, Orange Mountain Bikes, Fox Racing Shox, Troy Lee Designs, Stans No Tubes, e*thirteen components, Crank Brothers, SDG Components, SRAM and Avid.

Chris Hutchens wins at SDA2, Fort William

Fort William is one of those races that everyone looks forward to.  Rough, fast and at times just plain scary, the track is the biggest in the UK and forces everyone to step up a gear when riding there for the first time that season.  This year it was the turn of the SDA to start things off with their race just one week after the track opened for 2009 and just weeks before the World Cup circus hits the town.

2009 Season underway - Ae NPS and Pitfichie DH 1

The racing season is upon us. Actually, it all started a few weeks ago with the first round of the World Cup in South Africa but now the domestic series’ are in full swing and Orange are back on the podiums.

Ben Cathro - Photo: Ian Linton Chris Hutchens - Photo: Ian Maclennan Stanny - Photo: Ian Maclennan Joe Barnes - Photo: Ian Linton Rowan Sorrell

Starting things off was the first SDA of the season on the 19th April which was held at the most northerly race track in the UK; Pitfichie. Sun, heat and dust characterised that event as well as a great track which threw it all at riders from the fast and open top section to the rocks and roots lower down. With a push up and a fair bit of pedalling required to keep your speed up, it was a track which suited those who had been training hard over the winter.

MBR said: ”With two 10s on the trot, the Orange Five is fast becoming a classic. It's the best riding bike here and proof of that is the current scramble in the MBR offices to get the 2009 frameset. ”
